Call to Order
The second meeting of the 2018-2019 AMS/NWA chapter occurred on October 15, 2018 at the studio of WLBT in Jackson, MS. The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm by President Thomas Winesett.

Recording Secretary Joanne Culin took note of the number present. There were 11 attendees present.

Minutes Approval
Recording Secretary Joanne Culin summarized the meeting from the first meeting of the year in September.

New Business
The amount in the treasury was $370.29 as of the start of the meeting. Two members paid dues ($50) and a $20 chapter donation was made to Operation East Coast. This brought the total in treasury to $400.29 at the end of the meeting. In addition, after the meeting, the chapter made an additional $20 contribution to Operation East Coast and a matching 50% donation of $40 for outside donations. This brings the total to the treasury at $340.29 after the meeting.

Operation East Coast was a project that was in collaboration with Christana Landress that Eric Carpenter emailed to the group. Members could donate to Miss Landress for her to purchase items to help those recovering from Hurricane Florence. The chapter also donated money. (Note: Total proceeds between the chapter and member donations were $170.00, and this purchased two carts full of supplies from Walmart.)

The bulk of the meeting was taking a studio tour with Dave Roberts of WLBT. He showed us the newsroom, the master control and control room(for the local news). He discussed how they are responsible for seven stations. He then took us into the studio to show us the weather center and their equipment. Dave talked about how technology has changed so much over the years. Most reporters are doing live shots with their phones instead of lugging big cameras. Now stations will buy iPhones instead of $40,000 cameras.

Dave discussed how he got his start and answered questions. He got a journalism and marketing degree from Syracuse. He was a student intern/volunteer with the NWS office in New York and was station at 30 Rock where he recorded on weather radio and took hourly observations.

Adjournment
The meeting concluded at 8:25pm, and it was adjourned.

Minutes were submitted by Joanne Culin, Recording Secretary.
