The first meeting of the 2019-2020 year took place at the National Weather Service office in Flowood.
Meeting Minutes
Call to Order
The first meeting of the 2019-2020 AMS/NWA chapter occurred on September 12, 2019 at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Flowood, MS. The chapter held a cookout for the first meeting of the year, and after the group had a chance to eat, the meeting was called to order at 7:13pm by President Thomas Winesett.

Corresponding Secretary Daniel Lamb took note of the number present. There were 12 attendees present, including 10 active members.
Minutes Approval
Minutes have not yet been finalized from the previous meeting, but President Thomas Winesett summarized the May 2019 meeting for the group.
New Business
President Thomas Winesett announced that due to a family emergency, the announced guest speaker from the US Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg was not able to attend the meeting. The chapter will attempt to reschedule him for a later meeting.
Due to a lack of nominations, the chapter did not press ahead with new chapter year elections. Members were reminded to send in nominations. Elections will be delayed to a point when a sufficient number of nominations have been received and hopefully will occur by the next meeting.
Corresponding Secretary Daniel Lamb announced the next meeting would be held at the Mississippi River Basin Model in Jackson on Saturday, October 26th at 3:30 pm. This will be a joint meeting with the East Mississippi Chapter of the NWA and AMS. Additional details will be sent in a future email. Treasurer David Cox provided additional details on the history of the river basin model.
According to Treasurer David Cox, the amount in the treasury was $372.29 as of the start of the meeting. A total of $100 was spent on food items for the meeting and was reimbursed to Thomas Winesett. 4 members paid dues ($80) bringing the total in treasury to $352.29 at the end of the meeting.
Corresponding Secretary Daniel Lamb notified the chapter of the passing of former East Mississippi Chapter president Alex Herbst and discussed some of his contributions to the meteorology community. As a representative of the East Mississippi chapter, Alex helped organize the joint chapter meeting at the French Camp Observatory.
Daniel Lamb then discussed the implementation of a new low level elevation scan on the KDGX radar. Additional group discussion was held over the implications of the new scans and where the new data is available online and on various applications.

The meeting concluded at 7:35pm, and it was adjourned.
